What do you love most about where you live?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 16, 2007:
My neighbors.
This is an especially timely question for me, since we'll be moving in a few weeks. We're not going far -- technically, we could walk to the new place -- but it'll be far enough that there won't be any more phone calls where one of us says "we're going outside; wanna meet in the courtyard?" or "hey, do you have any chickpeas?" I like pretty much all of my neighbors, but two families in particular have become our close friends, and it's going to be hard to leave them.
The nice thing about this is that I do know how good it is to get myself outside and really talk with the people in my community. My parents were not like this, and therefore have almost no relationship with their neighbors. I'll be friends with these families for the rest of my life, and where I move to, one of the first things I'll pledge to do is get outside every afternoon with the kids and introduce ourselves to everyone who walks by. You never know who'll become a best friend.
